Will Weight Watchers work?

The founder of Weight Watchers was Jean Nidetch. The original diet plan was made in the 1960s while Nidetch was living in Queens, New York. She actually started Weight Watchers after hosting some weekly meetings with a few overweight friends at her house to talk about their issues with dieting and weight.

The Weight Watchers point system promotes foods such as lean proteins, vegetables and fruits. Unlike other diets, no foods are actually off limits. Healthy choices are highly encouraged but members can choose whatever foods they like. Nevertheless, they are supposed to stay under their daily Smart Points apportionment.

They also offer their own healthy recipes of their own to make it easier for people trying to eat healthier. The company has a wide variety of recipes from chocolate mini muffins to chicken Parmesan. Because of this great mixture of meals, people are almost always very happy with all of their recipes.

Just like anything else, it has its benefits and restrictions which are listed below.

Pros:

  • Several resources
  • Encourages exercise and lifelong skills
  • Does not discount any sorts of foods
  • Shows steady weight loss
  • Reduces the risk of diabetes
  • Has a flexible and balanced timeline

Cons:

  • May be costly
  • Can lead to unhealthy dieting
  • Necessary weigh-ins weekly
  • Must count points which can be frustrating and time consuming

As I have said before in the pros and cons, one of the problems for people may be cost. Their prices vary slightly between locations but the average cost per week differ from $6.92 to $13.85. It also depends on how many weeks a person pays for in advance. While there is a starter fee of $20, that fee often waives through their special promotions. Also, their online Plus Program starts at $3.07 per week.

Some may wonder whether this diet is completely healthy or not. But studies have shown that the diet is one of the most well-researched weight loss programs available. Many studies have shown that the plan can help you lose weight and keep it off. In fact, one study showed that people doing their diet lost more weight than those trying to lose pounds on their own. More than 78 percent of people really liked the weight watchers diet.

In my own opinion, I think the positives outweigh the negatives when it comes to this diet because of how influential it has been for numerous people. To start from a couple of group meetings with friends and eventually transform into something that perhaps millions of people are using, it has to work very well.
