Do you like Cookies? Well if you do, then there is a perfect diet for you, the Cookie Diet. The Cookie Diet, founded by Dr. Siegal, instructs you to eat 9 specially made cookies per day. You eat cookies for breakfast and lunch then for dinner you eat a light meal consisting of proteins and vegetables. You also will have to do 20-30 minutes of light exercise 3 times a week.  In addition, each day drink 8 glasses of water and take a multivitamin. After you have reached your desired weight, then you will switch to 3 healthy meals per day. Siegal’s cookies are made with a blend of amino acids which Dr. Siegal says will make you less hungry throughout the day. The company’s website claims this helps you control your calorie intake so you are able to limit your calories. Another reason people may like this diet is because the cookies are cheaper than buying meals, and this would allow them to save money.

The Cookie Diet does cost money, you have to order a special kind of cookie from the Cookie Diet website (https://www.cookiediet.com/), a monthly supply of cookies cost $180. Dr. Sanford Siegal created his special cookies in 1975 so that the patients of his Miami, Florida medical practice could control their hunger and eat less calories. According to U.S News and World Reports, there have been no scientific studies of the Cookie Diet to see if the diet actually works.

If you are interested in the Cookie Diet then you have a variety of flavors to choose from. Options include: Chocolate Brownie, Maple Pancakes, Cinnamon Oatmeal, and Butterscotch. The cookies provide 500 calories throughout the day and Dr. Siegal recommends a 500-700 calorie dinner, that will add up to 1000-1200 calories per day. There are potential consequences to the diet. If you are on the diet for a long period of time then you may lose too much weight.  Another side potential effect is that you may not be eating a balanced diet which could lead to getting sick. Taking the multivitamin can help with a balanced diet, but a multivitamin can’t replace everything.

I think this diet is a good diet if you are trying to lose weight, but I think it needs a better name. When I first saw it, I thought it was a diet where you just ate cookies. This is a good diet if you are trying to lose weight because you are eating 800 less calories than the standard recommended 2000 calorie diet. However, if you stay on the Cookie Diet for a long time then you won’t learn healthy eating habits and your food selection could become very slim. I would recommend this diet to anyone who wants to eat cookies and still lose weight.
