Have you ever wondered why Valentine’s Day is celebrated globally? Valentine’s Day is not only an important day to show your affection to loved ones but, it has a interesting backstory.
Origin
Traditionally, Romans held a annual festival in mid February. They called this festival “Lupercalia”. This festival was held to celebrate the beginning of spring which included men and women being paired together through a lottery system. By the 5th century, the Pope at the time, Pope Gelasius I, renamed Lupercalia as St. Valentine’s Day. Now, everyone that participated in the festival celebrated romance.
