It’s finally the Halloween season! The time for candy, costumes, and watching Halloween movies at midnight. There’s lots of great Halloween movies, but which is the best of all of them? Nobody will really know for sure, but here’s five of what I think is considered to be the best Halloween movies to watch, rated PG or G. This list contains mostly older movies, and each movie has a 70% rating or higher on Rotten Tomatoes, a website of movie reviews from professional critics. Hopefully you’ll agree with these picks.

  1. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”

Charlie Brown (played by Peter Robbins) and his friends celebrate on Halloween while going trick-or-treating except for Linus (played by Christopher Shea), who once again, waits for a mysterious creature known as the Great Pumpkin. Although it’s only 25 minutes long, this is the perfect Halloween film if you like Charlie Brown. It’s also great for being so short because it has a good and spooky plot, and has lots of funny scenes, and that’s what really matters out of a Halloween film. It also received a very good 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s sure to put a smile on your face.

This awesome Halloween film tells the story of four “Ghostbusters” (played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson), who investigate strange paranormal activity around Manhattan. This is a great Halloween film for anyone who likes Halloween. It has the perfect blend of great special effects and comedy, with an amazing performance by the cast. I definitely recommend this movie.

  1.   “The Nightmare Before Christmas”Image result for Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is the perfect Halloween film if you want to see the creative and original idea of scary monsters ruining Christmas. This creepy film tells the story of Jack Skellington (played by Chris Sarandon), who is bored with his job as the Pumpkin King, and feels that life in Halloweenland is boring, and lacks meaning. He then finds a joyful place named Christmastown. He decides to make his own version of Christmas, which goes horribly wrong. In the end, you learn the very important moral to be careful what you wish for. This great Halloween film received an amazing 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you’re a fan of ghosts and monsters, make sure you check this great movie out!

  1. “Young Frankenstein”Image result

This perfect Halloween film tells the scary story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (played by Gene Wilder), the grandson of Dr. Victor von Frankenstein, who goes into his castle, and finds his work. Frederick thinks his grandfather’s work is fake, but when he finds the book where the mad doctor describes the plans for his experiment, he changes his mind. This great Halloween film has a perfect plot, with humorous and creepy scenes. It also received a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a great Halloween Film, so don’t miss it!

  1. “Frankenstein”

Frankenstein. The perfect, and one of the oldest, Halloween films to watch if you’re a big fan of scary, classic Halloween monsters. In fact, the Frankenstein story originally comes from a book, which was released on January 1, 1818. Except we’re talking about the movie Frankenstein, not the book. The 1931 film tells the story of a mad scientist named Dr. Henry Frankenstein (played by Colin Clive), who makes a monster using dead people’s body parts. In the end, Dr. Henry and his assistant Fritz (played by John Boles) bring the monster to life.  When the monster mistakenly kills Maria (played by Marilyn Harris), a young girl he meets down by a river, the town wants to bring an end to Dr. Frankenstein and his terrifying creation. This is the perfect movie for a Halloween sleepover, and to prove my point, it got a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best movies on the website. This movie tells a great Halloween story, and you can still find many trick-or-treaters wearing this classic Halloween monster. This movie was the number one pick on the list for being an iconic Halloween film, and something that everyone can enjoy. It may be pretty old, but that just makes this perfect Halloween film a classic!

Honorable Mentions:

There are many more great Halloween movies out there, but not all can make it into the list. Here are some honorable mentions that didn’t quite make it on this list: Dracula, Monster House, The Witches, The Addams Family, Garfield’s Halloween Adventure, and Gremlins. These are all still great movies to give you the chills, so make you check them out! And now, here comes the number one pick! We hope that you agreed with my picks, and maybe learned a thing or two that you never knew. Make sure to check out more of the other awesome stories on Rider Review.
